06.04.08 System failure ruins promising start
Steering system failure forced Joey Foster to pull off the track just 41 laps into the opening round of the 2008 Le Mans Series at the Catalunya Circuit in Barcelona today (Sunday 6th April 2008). As the team was not equipped to carry out a full analysis of the failure it had to be assumed that the component might suffer the same problem in the number 45 sister car. For reasons of safety, the 45 car was withdrawn from the race immediately pending a full report into the steering design and manufacture. At the time of the incident, the cars were running 9th and 10th in class, circulating comfortably at competitive lap times in the high 1:39s. An obvious disappointment for the team who have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks and months, the project nevertheless has gained from the experience and should be in better shape for Monza in a couple of weeks.
