05.04.08 Qualifying produces no drama

Catalunya Qualifying

Producing midfield pace for all three free practice sessions, it was little surprise to see the Embassy Racing WF01s lining up on the grid for tomorrow’s race in 7th and 10th in class following today’s qualifying session. An interrupted session saw Warren put the 45 car in 7th with a time of 1:38.1 and Jonny was less than half a second behind on 1:38.5 having to settle for tenth place.

Catalunya Qualifying

Although still some way off the pace of the LMP2 leaders, there are many positives to be taken from the performance of both cars and all four drivers at Catalunya. For a private constructor to bring a largely undeveloped and untested new car to the first round of the Le Mans Series and get through qualifying without major incident is in itself an achievement – to be able to start the race in front of significant numbers of more established LMP2 machinery has to be considered remarkable.

The stage is set – the weather in Spain has been kind all weekend, if it continues to shine, we should all be in for a wonderful roller coaster ride following the first ever 1000 km adventure for the Embassy WF01s.
