27.09.07 Pop and soap celebs help make Silverstone special

As well as the best racing of the season, the Silverstone round of this year’s Le Mans series saw a glamorous show of support for the Embassy team from some of its most high profile and famous celebrity fans.

Arranging day release from Her Majesty’s pleasure, where she is serving a sentence for murder, Coronation Street femme fatale Tracey Barlow, nee Kate Ford, made a rare appearance. Obviously she’s not in prison for real, so it was slightly disconcerting to see that she was nevertheless sporting the latest in electronic ankle tag chic – maybe we should look out for a shoplifting expose in the News of the World this Sunday – only joking!

You might think that one criminal was enough for any motor racing team (ahem), but not for Embassy. Bad Girl Debra Stephenson, aka Frankie from Coronation Street also made an appearance. She has clearly shaken off the stigma of her time in Larkhall, but it has to be said that more than a couple of guests’ wallets had gone missing from the hospitality suite by the end of the day.

Now some might call it coincidence, but worryingly, the next Embassy celebrity guest also burst onto our screens through criminal activity. The wonderful Becky from Roy’s Rolls in Coronation Street was a thief, a liar and a bit of an aggressive loud mouth – Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky, found that by reverting to character at Silverstone, she could fit right in with the rest of the personalities in the motor racing paddock.

A self confessed petrol head, Lucy couldn’t get enough of the technical, engineering and strategic aspects of racing – and as you can imagine, there was no shortage of “experts” on hand to personally guide her through the detail.

Finally, in soap gives way to pop… type… thing… (who writes this stuff?), two thirds of Atomic Kitten showed up with a small, though impressive, entourage complete with buff black American indoor sunglasses wearing guy. Everyone just loved the added “gagnsta” factor as Liz and Natasha followed the six hour endurance race with a six hour gig showcasing a medley of their fantastic hits. The tide was high that night alright!
