10.05.08 Qualifying highlights progress

It is an irrefutable motor racing truth, the closer you get to the front, the harder it is to find the pace you need to leapfrog those in front of you – and so it is proving with the Embassy Racing WF01s. Fortunately, through tireless effort, determination and more than a little technical and engineering know how, the team is still managing to tease out fractions of seconds a lap almost every time the cars have track time.

In, what some might say unnervingly glorious conditions at Spa this afternoon (Saturday 10th May) Joey Foster and Warren Hughes set about qualifying the Embassy WF01s for the 1000 kilometres 3rd round of the 2008 Le Mans Series.

Throughout free practice, the Embassy prototypes continued to make slight though significant gains on the LMP2 front runners and the expectations for a positive grid position was high.

So, in a crash disrupted session which saw the twenty minutes stretch to nearly an hour, both Joey and Warren found a few more fractions.

Joey managed a time of 2:08.047 to see him land 6th in class, the highest starting place yet for the WF01. Warren produced an excellent 2:08.873, but it is an indication as to the quality of this world class field that this time had the 45 car down in 10th. Still, two cars starting a race in the top ten at Spa is a wonderful achievement and is certainly something to build on both in this race and for future events.

The Embassy WF01s are no longer chasing the leading pack, we are in it!
