Map Embassy Supersport rider Glen Richards and his locally built Triumph 675, took on the World Supersport wildcard riders and held his own spectacularly.
In the first of the two qualifying sessions Glen managed to set the third fastest time of the session behind Hanspree Ten Kate Honda riders Andrew Pitt and Jonathan Rea. Paul Young also put in a strong showing and was unlucky to be left just outside the top ten in 11th. With the first Supersport qualifying session taking place at 9.35am the circuit remained dry throughout but as the session came to a close a light drizzle turned to a full on shower soon after.
That weather stayed with us for the remainder of the day which meant all riders would struggle to beat their times from their first sessions, including AJ Venter who had set the fastest time of the Superstock 600 qualifying session on Saturday. And so, as expected, no riders managed to better their times in the wet, although Glen did take a tumble which resulted in no harm to bike or rider, meaning Glen and AJ will both start on their respective front rows and Youngy on the third row for the Supersport race. So, not a good result for the spectators and the Map Embassy fans who braved the weather for the pit walk at mid-day, but good news for our riders who were all relatively pleased with their final positions on the grid for Monday.
With the weather forecast for Bank Holiday Monday set to change constantly for much of the day, it should make for some interesting racing.
