30.07.08 Glen and AJ Knocking at the door

Preparations are under way for Map Embassy’s trip to Knockhill next week and with Glen Richards and AJ Venter both looking to close in on their respective championships there is no room for error.

Knockhill Circuit

Glen sits top of the British Supersport Championship with a 25 point lead and with early championship contenders Steve Brogan, Chris Martin, and Steve Plater dropping off the pace in recent rounds it is looking very much like a two horse race between Glen and Hudson Kennaugh of Raceways Yamaha. The South African is second in the championship and has looked the biggest threat to Glen’s title challenge.

Glen spoke of his approach to the Knockhill round and the remaining races

“I think strong finishes in the remaining rounds will be the key to winning this championship now.Obviously I am going out there to win as many races as possible but at this stage in the season you really have to think about riding sensibly as well as competitively. Failure to pick up points in the next few races will let a few people back in to the hunt for the championship trophy.”

Our own South African really looks to be coming into his own as the season reaches that make or break stage. AJ lies joint third in the Superstock 600 Championship and with the top four separated by just 12 points there is everything still to ride for. After claiming his first win of the year at Oulton Park AJ will be looking to kick on from that and climb up the standings.

Meanwhile, Paul Young will be looking for his luck to change after three consecutive DNF’s at the last few rounds. But Youngy will surely be boosted by his great result at Knockhill last year when he rode brilliantly to claim 3rd spot and a place on the podium.

“If I can repeat last year’s success at Knockhill that would be great for me and the team. To have two Map Embassy riders on the podium would be sensational. I was gutted with how the race ended at Oulton Park. One minute I was in the top six and felt I could push for one of the top three spots then I just felt the bike slipping off the pace before it eventually died. I hope to have a better showing at Knockhill .” – Paul Young
