14.06.08 Richards on pole in Snetterton

Map Embassy are in good shape for Sunday’s races after some solid qualifying sessions at Snetterton today (Saturday 14th June.)

Glen rode well during the first qualifying session staying in P2 for the majority of the session until, with a minute to go he stole P1 from Ian Lowry of Relentless Suzuki by TAS. Youngy was also in the thick of it and managed to clinch 7th by the end of the first session in which the top 20 were separated by just one second.

It was then over to AJ for his second qualifying session after claiming 2nd in Friday’s first session. The young South African put in a good shift but dropped two places to P4 and that is where he will start on the grid for tomorrow’s race, still a decent result which keeps him in the hunt for the championship.

So with AJ’s fate sealed all attentions turned to the Supersport riders, but within five minutes of AJ’s session finishing the glorious sunshine that had graced us with its presence for most of the day departed and was replaced by a strong wind and light showers. And although by the time the second qualifying session had come round the weather had brightened up again, the conditions had made sure that nobody was going to improve on their times from the first session. So it was a matter of testing the wet bike and experimenting with a few settings for the riders and mechanics, although Paul did manage to set the fastest time in the wet which meant that we had a Triumph setting the fastest time in both sessions.

Glen Richards said:

“It’s frustrating when you get a day like this. You want to go out to try and better your time, and even just to get the feel for the bike on the track but I suppose me and Youngy are both fortunate that we had a good session this morning and posted some decent times.”
