The ankle injury Paul Young sustained during the Supersport race in Snetterton at the weekend doesn’t seem to be as bad as first feared. Paul, who is still waiting on a full diagnosis of the injury, says he is already on the mend but fears he may not be fit in time for his home round at Mallory Park next week.

The Supersport rider said:
“It feels a little better already, but I am seeing a specialist on Wednesday who will be able to give me a full diagnosis and tell me how long it will be before I can ride again. There is still a doubt that I might not be able to make Mallory next week, which would be a shame as it is my local circuit.”
With Paul’s recovery time still unclear Map Embassy sent Superstock 600 rider AJ Venter to test one of Youngy’s Supersport machines this week as cover for Paul should the Aussie not make Mallory.
The young South African would not be riding his own bike at Mallory regardless, as the Superstock 600 class takes a break next week in favour a double-header on the last round of the season at Brands Hatch. So with the possibility of only having one rider, Glen Richards, racing at Mallory, AJ may be given the chance to replace Paul in the Supersport class, although no decision will be made until we have a full diagnosis on Paul’s injury.

AJ had mixed feelings about the prospect of riding at Mallory Park:
“Obviously I wish Paul a speedy recovery and hope he does make it back in time for Mallory. It isn’t nice to be stepping into somebody else’s shoes under such circumstances, however, I will be looking forward to testing the Supersport bike this week and if called upon to replace Paul at Mallory I would like to be as best prepared as possible which is what this test day is all about.”
